Ol Pejeta Conservancy is one of Kenya’s leading private wildlife conservancies, located in Laikipia County between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. Internationally recognized for its pioneering conservation initiatives, Ol Pejeta combines wildlife protection, research, community development, and sustainable tourism. It is home to the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa and the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the world.

The Experience

Ol Pejeta offers a diverse and enriching safari experience with excellent wildlife densities and well-managed infrastructure. Visitors can enjoy game drives featuring the Big Five, as well as endangered species such as Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. Unique experiences include visiting the northern white rhino enclosure, tracking rhinos on foot, chimpanzee sanctuary visits, night game drives, and behind-the-scenes conservation encounters. The conservancy’s balance of luxury lodges and authentic safari activities makes it suitable for a wide range of travelers.

Birdlife

With over 300 recorded bird species, Ol Pejeta is an excellent birding destination. Its varied habitats—grasslands, riverine woodland, and acacia savannah—support species such as the African Fish Eagle, Augur Buzzard, Hartlaub’s Bustard, Jackson’s Widowbird, Silverbird, and numerous sunbirds and raptors. The Ewaso Nyiro River is particularly productive for water-associated bird species.
